The Berggren center brings together the biological and quantum communities to create a novel environment for engineering purpose-built quantum technology for biomedical sciences. Quantum sensing represents the most immediately accessible quantum technlogy, and it is ideally suited to make important new measurements in biology and medicine. Yet, quantum science and engineering remains largely in the domain of physics and quite separate from medicine. The Center will create "bilingual" scholars who are as comfortable in a biology laboratory as an optical physics laboratory. De-mystifying quantum and clearly framing forefrotn grand challenges in medicine in physical terms, the center will drive innovation, adoption, and impelmentation of quantum technology for human health.
